THIS BOOK DRILLS TWELVE CONCEPTS FROM THE FIRST TWO SECTIONS OF THE PRECISION WING CHUN WOODEN DUMMY SET. THE FIRST TWO SECTIONS EXPLORE DIFFERENT USES OF TAAN SAU

EACH PWC DUMMY X EXERCISE DRILLS THE FOOTWORK AND BODY POSITIONS THAT OFTEN OCCUR IN A REAL FIGHT. NO GLOVES, NO REFS, NO WHINING. JUST SUPERIOR KNOWLEDGE THAT WILL HELP YOU CONSTANTLY PRESSURE AN ATTACKER'S GRAVITY LINE. THESE EXERCISES TOUGHEN YOUR BODY, SHARPEN YOUR SIGHT PICTURE, AND WORK THE CHANGES IN YOUR STRUCTURE THAT ARE APPROPRIATE TO A PARTICULAR CLASS OF MOVEMENTS.
It is somewhat disheartening to see so much inferior knowledge on the web being masqueraded as "masterful" Wing Chun knowledge. If you know Wing Chun principles it is easy to spot the weaknesses in the hype. For instance, watch someone do the dummy set. Pay attention to where they step. The following two pictures are a position from the "10's' or the first section of the Dummy set. One darts into the dummy arm with a bong sau to set up a bong to taan transition around the corner.

Both pictures show a meridian line under both of Mr. Cho's feet. The one on the left shows what most people's stance looks like when their bong is engaged with the dummy arm. THIS IS AN INCORRECT POSITIONING! The focus in the left picture:
  • is on the arm and doesn't pressure the dummy's gravity line
  • the front foot is out and back too far which moves the bong>>>taan arm away from the dummy arm leaving a gap in the middle of the transition
  • and  the gap in the transition gives the opponent more time and room to counter attack.
This structural weakness comes from an incorrect step. That incorrect step is a second set lateral dart applied to the dummy. This is the dummy, the footwork should be dummy footwork. If you can't get around the corner in Chi Sau it is probably because of this habit.

The picture on the right is from the first half of a forward step. A forward step is a dart step to a future base leg followed by a circle step forward with the other leg. This dart step  is also a lateral dart, but the meridian line you are  darting down rotates inward toward the Dummy's gravity line. Learn more about this "Plum Flower Stepping" in this book.

Drilling the Dummy X exercises in this book allow you to do your Sifu's set with more accuracy and purpose. The exercises are repetitive and focused on a single concept. You know exactly why you are doing that exercise, and hence you can feel the results from your efforts. That feed back makes you hungry for more. PWC Dummy X exercises set your focus, drill that focus, and result with muscle memory that keeps your bones lined up properly throughout your movement. Over time this type of practice fosters Lin Wan, or "Perfect Spontaneity".

PRACTICING A CONCEPT WITH PRECISION A 100 TIMES IS WORTH 10,000 APPROXIMATIONS.
